It is my understanding that last count, some of the ‘woman owned businesses’ had liens against them in the amount of approximately $450,000 to $500,000, which would have included social security taxes, federal payroll taxes, state payroll taxes and state sales’ taxes, among other ‘taxes’….I believe and was informed that these amounts would have included penalties/interest and fines. I also am under the impression that these ‘liens’ were over a period of time; meaning, the women and their businesses did this on a number of occasions and that a few of the liens are/were against the women personally, due to the nature of the taxes that were ‘utilized’….
‘The Women’s Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC), is the largest third-party certifier of businesses owned, controlled and operated by women in the United States. WBENC, a national 501(c) (3), non-profit, partners with 14 Regional Partner Organizations to provide its’ world class standard of certification to women-owned businesses throughout the country.’ The aforementioned is a direct quote from WBENC’s website.
Or does the certification committee at WBENC not really care as to the ‘history’ of any woman owned business for which they are certifying? Or is there ‘criteria’ that is not necessarily thoroughly checked by the committee that does the certifying? I’m asking these questions for I would like to know why a company that may have had liens which some would consider ‘too numerous to count’ on the corporation and, possibly, liens on the woman owner of the business due to the nature of the taxes ‘taken’, could be certified by WBENC.
Maybe it is OK by WBENC’s standards to have a woman owner of a business utilize the trust fund taxes of her employees for personal reasons….birthday parties/new cars/new air conditioners/braces for the ‘kids’/vacations/vacations/vacations….it just might not matter to WBENC that these monies could have been utilized for anything less than what they were intended….paying into the government trust funds….or maybe WBENC just does NOT care….
….and if WBENC does not care, that is certainly OK by me….just don’t purport or advertise to be the greatest thing since sliced bread to all of the suppliers out there who have faith that WBENC is doing its ‘due diligence’ during the women business enterprise certification process.
So, as I support women in business that do everything by the book; that do everything ‘right’ or at least try to do everything ‘right’….for, yes, we all make mistakes somewhere along the line, don’t we?….please let the world know that these ‘women’ who work their fingers to the bone, who haven’t seen the inside of a health club for ages, if at all, and who have never, ever, ever taken a penny of someone’s trust fund monies will, without question, receive their WBENC certification immediately upon receipt of their application……
I use to be a strong advocate of WBENC; now, I want some explanations. Copies of this BLOG are available for of those government suppliers and especially every bio-pharma company out there….to read and see. I am going to do my best to insure that I receive some answers…..
